Ballad For The 21st Century
Let’s not get used to living in
A world that’s being destroyed
Instead of getting used to it
Shout ‘Stop!’ and get annoyed!
If I’d never seen a rainforest
Then I would not speak out
And cry, ‘Protect our rainforests
We cannot live without!’
If poisoned seas were all I knew
It would seem odd to me
To notice from the shore at night
The fisherman at sea
If blue skies always had been grey
And days as dark as night
A sunny day to me would be
A strange and blinding sight
If we had always paid for air
And everywhere was smoke
We might not see the poor man
Begin to cough and choke
Our skies are still a wondrous treat
Our forests still have trees
Our seas still have clean fish to eat
Let’s keep it like this – please!
Let’s not get used to living in
A world that’s being destroyed
Instead of getting used to it
Shout ‘Stop!’ and get annoyed!
